Hi, I am having problems when downloading SQL express 2017, I get this message:

Viual Studio "Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 *64 Minimum Runtime - 14.15.26706" needs to be repaired.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ali-82,

Welcome to the MSDN forum.

If you have installed VS2017 or VC++ 2017 redist package:

  1. please go to control panel-> Select Programs -> Programs and Features -> Search "C++" -> In the list select Visual C++ 2017(or your error version) Redistributable -> right click to select "change" -> choose repair. After that, to continue install SQL Server Express 2017.
  2. Go back into the installer and selected all the "ATL C++" workload then press “Modify”. Now when you go through the SQL Server 2017 install it will say C++ already installed.

If you don’t have any VS 2017 product or above all doesn’t work. Please have a try with installing the latest "Visual C++ redistributable packages for Visual Studio 2017". The download link can be found below:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads

What’s more, uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable package from Program and Features option. MS SQL 2017 installation will automatically add it once the installation is completed.

Looking forwards your reply.

Best Regards

May
