Creating a Windows IoT Core Virtual Machine

Question

Hello,

I want to experiment with Windows IoT Core. To do this, I want to run Windows IoT Core in a virtual environment.

Is there a way to run Windows IoT Core on a Virtual Machine in Hyper-V? If so, how? I've been unsuccessful in my attempts.

Hi there,

officially this is not supported but there are some folks on the Internet who are getting this up and running.

Yes, IoT Core can run in a VM. Here is another solution:  http://annabooks.com/Articles/Articles_IoT10Core/Windows-10-IoT-Core-VM-Version-1.2.pdf . A custom IoT Core with the necessary drivers are needed for the VM to be useful for development. Also, it is not really practical since VMs don't support low-speed bus ports.
