Question

I am having a really odd issue with none of the images in any DOCX documents displaying correctly. They seem to show attributes of other open windows. This behavior carries over to Outlook Preview's as well. This happens in Print Layout/WebLayout/Read Mode.
I apparently can not include images... but can provide if needed.
If I disable Hardware acceleration, all of the Office Apps open as white boxes of nothingness, and have to re enable acceleration through registry to return any use.
I have run Quick and Online repair of the installation AS WELL as completely reinstalling. All applicable video drivers have been updated to the most recent and the issue persists. I can find no evidence of this issue existing elsewhere so I am afraid I have no where else to turn.

Hi,
Does this issue occur with documents in other formats, such as .doc?
I would give some steps that I hope they could be helpful.
1. Go to File > Options > Advanced > Show document content, check the box of Show background colors and images in Print Layout view, and uncheck the box of Show picture placeholders.
2. Run Word in the safe mode to have a check. Type winword /safe in the Run dialog and click OK. It could rule out of Add-ins inspect.
3. Reset user options and registry settings in Word. You could try the easy fix tool and then follow the steps in the easy fix wizard.
4. Rename the Normarl.dotm to create a new template file. Please close all the Office windows and show the hidden files. Go to C:\Users\user name >\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates, then find the Normal.dotm and rename it. This file will be automatically generated when reopen Word.
5. Would you please test in a new administrator account? Create an administrator account in Windows 10, and open the documents in a new account to check if the issue still exists.
If the steps above do not work, in my opinion please try to contact Dell support disable the Nvidia graphics driver in Devices Manager to have a check. Or try to set “Power management mode” from Adaptive to Maximum Performance
If you have any updates, please feel free to let me know.
Best Regards,
Emily

I believe I am having the same problem described by the person above. I have MS Word 2010 and everything works FINE. There are no problems with Word 2010.
In Word 365, if I try to copy/paste HTML from a web site, it does not show photos and it shows very garbled information. If I do the same thing with MS Word 2010, it works perfectly.
Outlook Preview is also wacky. On some HTML e-mails, it seems to keep painting and scrolling automatically for say 10 seconds and then when it shows the e-mail it's unreadable as there is random other e-mails all mixed inside the email. It's totally crazy. This only started happening in the past month or so.
I have completely uninstalled Office 365 and reinstalled it. I have tried the safe mode you suggest above and it still does not work.
Here is a sample. This is a photo including my word application bar and bottom bar. Note that Under "Beads Tutorial" is blank space where the picture should be. Also, see there is random text/buttons above "Beads Tutorial" and at the bottom of the screen it seems to be duplicating a section of the Word button bar.
This is a BRAND NEW document. I opened Word 365 blank document, copy/paste and this is what happens.
:( How do i "verify my account so I can post a screen capture in here?
Here's another sample:
If I click away to another application from Word and then back, I then can see the text I copied and the image outline shows but no image still. And then at that point some of the images/text on the button bar are missing. Extremely weird. Clicking back and forth, the button bar does come back.
This happens on New documents and on documents I had previously edited. Even with documents sent from other people.
And here is Word 2010 with the same copy/paste.
OH, and the online version seems to work fine?
What could be causing this? This makes Word 365 unusable. :(
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
Chris

Me too!! Did a Windows 7 >> Windows 10 upgrade Monday. This exact issue started Wednesday. Tried everything I could find except reinstalling Office, since no one seems to have had permanent sucess with that. Video drivers, Office Updates, Windows updates, (Adding AND removing all the above), registry changes, normal.dotm, etc. Any DOC, PPT, XLS or email with a graphic has issues. Docs are fine - display and act fine when viedwing and editing in Word Online.
HELP!!
UPDATE: I finally uninstalled and reinstalled Offcie twice - no help. Then used the Office Removal Tool to do a total wipe-out uninstall, rebooted, and did a clean Office install, and so far everything is working. Just for reference, since this appears it MIGHT be related to a recent Office Update, the re-install came it at 1908 Build 11929.20562). When I was having these issues, it had just installed a 2001 update on Feb 11 - when the issues started. Going to disable updates for awhile and track this issue.

Yes, I too have this problem after doing an install-in-place conversion from Windows 7 to Windows 10 last week. WORD from Office 365 displays remnants of other portions of the screen in place of embedded pictures. WORD 2010 displays the pictures (and entire documents) correctly.

At the business I work for, recently we've gone through upgrading our Windows 7 Pro Machines to Windows 10 Pro and as such have all upgraded to Office 365 from Office 2016 too.
However in the process of upgrading, there was an issue with one machine because it was on Windows 7 Ultimate so we had to wipe it to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. So installed Windows 7 Pro and did the Upgrade process.
In this process we have got this exact error where when you have multiple Word docs open (or sometimes even just one) the pictures in the .docx file will be displayed as blank rectangles. (already checked the picture placeholder setting and that's unchecked)
Then when you have more than one document open, it just shows text and random parts of other open Word documents.
I've tried all the steps suggested in this thread to no avail.
I've reinstalled, ran Office Repair, reset user options and registry, renamed the normarl.dotm file etc. Still no luck.
Is there any other suggestions to clear this bug? As we seem to be getting no where here and it means the user of this PC isn't able to work normally at the moment. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have had the same issue from back in December when I upgraded a Windows 7 PC to Windows 10. Prior to this all word docx files displayed perfectly with windows 7 and Word 2016. Frustratingly it was ok for about a week before the problem started, this was coincidental with both updates for Windows 10 and my AMD graphics card driver so I am not sure what actually caused it.
I updated 4 PCs at the same time to windows 10 and only one gave this problem. I have done all the suggested checks and repairs I could find on the web, plus installed Word 2019 but there has been no change. As a temporary work around I found that opening the .docx file and then saving it as a .doc enabled me to at least see and work on the document albeit in .doc format. Alternatively I have to move my .docx files to another one of my PCs where they will open correctly and display the embedded images fine.
MS seem to be aware of the issue but as yet no solution has been advised. Very frustrating so if anyone gets a solution I would really appreciate a notification
