Error when moving documents. mentioning that the destination library has smaller version limit that the source library

Question

Wednesday, January 23, 2019 1:35 PM

I have 2 sub-sites inside the same site collection. and i want to move some document from one document library (source) to another document library (destination).

one the Source list we have the following limit of the number of minor and major which is 100 for both:-

while on the Destination we have a limit of 100 on the major versions, and i left the minor version empty (as i think this will assign it the default limit of 511):-

now when i tried to move the documents i got this warning message, mentioning that we are moving to a document library which has smaller version limit :-

but in our case the destination has the defualt limit which is 511, while the source has explicit limit = 100. so the error does not make sense to me. is this correct, or i am missing something?

Thanks

Hi,

Can you please also try by setting "Keep drafts for the following number of major versions" to value 100?

As it is the only noticeable version difference.

yes i did so and i were able to move the document. but my question is why we got the error when we have the limit kept empty? as keeping the value empty should defualt to 511 ? is this correct?

Hi johnjohn11,

It is just the warning message not error message. You still can move the documents, but the versions of the documents will be lost.

Because you left the minor version empty in the destination document library, then the minor versions of the source document library and destination document library are different. Then you will receive the warning message.

Hi,

The documents in error might have draft versions. Can you please check?
