Question

I have a VM (Resource Manager deployment model) running under MSDN Azure which has been started and stopped on a daily basis for several weeks without problem. A couple of days ago it hung during the restart with a status of 'Updating'. After waiting for several hours, I tried to stop the VM from portal sometimes the stop operation fails with error codes 'error error' and sometimes I need to stop it using PowerShell. I have tried numerous restarts with the same result plus a couple of Redeploy operations which fail; I have also tried resizing the VM to see if that changed the startup processing but that also failed.
Any suggestions welcomed
Thanks
Adrian

Try deleting the VM by keep disk option and re-create from the same OS disk. Please make sure that you have noted that storage account name before deleting by keep disk option.

So it hung during restart, and since then it's been hanging every time you try to start it? What shows when you look at the boot diagnostics screenshot?
If the machine is completely screwed up I would pull a copy of the VM's VHD and run it locally in hyper-v to see if it starts there...otherwise sometimes you'll see VMs start up just fine but say updating in the portal.
