I work in a higher education institute. Every September we create a new image and apply it to all computers. This year we have hit an annoying snag when opening Powerpoint presentations. Here's the issue.
Problem
User goes to any website using Internet Explorer 11. User clicks on a powerpoint presentation to view it. They are prompted to Open , Save or Save As. If they click on Open, IE tries to open it and waits for a bit before giving the "Not enough memory" error. You click on OK for the error. Wait a bit and then Powerpoint tries to open it up and gives a message that it cannot open the Powerpoint. There is nothing wrong with the Powerpoint presentation because you can open it other ways. See temporary solution below.
Temporary Solution
Using internet explorer the user simply needs to click on Save or Save As and save the file locally. They can then double click on the presentation and it opens up no problem. That or they can use Chrome (haha Microsoft) and open it without any issues. However, we need the faculty members to be able to click on Open and have a file open without having to use a work around.
Additional Information
Opening word documents within IE by clicking on Open does not give any errors.
I googled this error and saw someone mentioning to Manage IE add-ons. I checked the add-ons and found one called Office Document Cache Handler*.* I googled what it does and this is the description I found for it For users of Microsoft Office 2010, a browser add-on for Internet Explorer, called the Office Document Cache Handler*, is installed that eliminates an unnecessary file download when opening* Office documents stored on SharePoint or other servers that support DAV or MS-FSSHTTP file transfer protocols. I am looking into this possibly being the issue. I will update as I go.
Ask me for any additional information and I will gladly answer.

Hi,
Please try the following steps and then check if this issue continues:
Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. For added protection, back up the registrybefore you modify it.
1. Open Registry Editor and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Low Rights\ElevationPolicy\FC88B53C-9B2A-1A25-5867-C8612E79DBF6}
(if you don't have that key then search for powerpnt.exe in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Low Rights\ElevationPolicy)
2. In the right pane, change the value of Policy to 3.
3. Restart IE and try again.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Steve Fan
