Hi Folks,
I have been trying to fix this problem for several hours now!
I have created a new tab within Visual Studio 2008 as i had in visual studio 2005
I have selected the toolbox dll from framework 3.5 however the items do not load into the toolbox. Upon selecting the "show all" on the toolbox menu i can see the items however all greyed out.
Please confirm a fix for this, as i am officially going mad!.
Thanks

Hi Nipster,
It is a werid issue and we cannot reproduce it. But someone has met this situation and provide a solution. Please do the following steps and have a test.
1) Shut down Visual Studio 2008
2) Go to your Task Manager and make sure that the dev.exe process is NOT running. If it is, end the process.
3) Go to C:\Users\user]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0 and delete all the .tbd files. There will be four of these files. If you can't seem to navigate to this folder, you will have to go to your Folder options and enable it to see all hidden files and folders.
4) From there, open up Visual Studio 2008 and re-add the group and the controls to your toolbox.I have

If you updating from VS 2008 Beta 2 to VS2008 release you need to follow every single step, I did that and it worked. I hope it works for you too:

A fresh install should work great, something else is to re-install those tools http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/asp.net/bb944808.aspx

Thank you for your replies!
Just to update you.. the problem only occurs when i create a new tab in VS2008.
If i add the items in the general tab on the toolbox this appears to work perfect!
Completely stupid yes, it works perfect on my desktop without a hitch.

I know this thread is old, but has anyone found a solution to this? I've tried suggested solutions mentioned in this thread along with other solutions I've found but no luck so far. I've also tried devenv /setup which worked for some people but not me. I upgraded over the w/end from VS05 to VS08 and never had this trouble with VS2005
Anyone have any suggestions?

I am using VS 2010, just downloaded the Ajax Control Toolkit Binaries, have got not wireless mouse (even I tried to unplug my mouse - no success -) and have tried deleting the .tbd files as mentioned; but still the Ajax control toolkit controls are grayed out and disabled!
I have tried the following also:
1. creating a new webite.
2. changing the target .NET framework from 4.0 to 3.5 and vice versa.
3. Restarting VS and Windows.
but no success!
Any new information will be appreciated.
