Conditional forwarders and replication

Question

Thursday, September 29, 2016 3:11 PM

Server 2012 environment, three DC's each running DNS, all on separate subnets serving separate departments.  Currently replicating DNS between all DC's.

I'd like to see if it is possible to exclude a conditional forwarder from replicating, or creating one on a single DNS server only.  Our HR department has a VPN connection to an outside entity.  I'd like a conditional forwarder to the entity's domain but I don't want any other departments or DC's to use that forwarder.

Looking for any suggestions or direction on how to accomplish this.  Thanks.

Hi Chris,

>> I'd like to see if it is possible to exclude a conditional forwarder from replicating, or creating one on a single DNS server only.

Please open the DNS manager, and right-click conditional forwarder, disable store this conditional forwarder in active directory, and replicate it as follows.

I unchecked this from each DC and then removed the conditional forwarder manually on the DC's that don't require it.  Worked like a charm, thanks for your help!
