users cant copy and paste on network drives

Question

Wednesday, September 20, 2017 8:56 PM

I have a windows 2012 r2 server. I have 6 Drives mapped with GPO. Permissions are correct and are given out through groups. Around mid July all of my users lost the ability to  Copy and Paste on the drives. It works locally fine. If I log into dc1 or dc2 I can copy and paste in them. If I log onto a user computer with my Admin account (Same one I use for dc1 and dc2) It doesn't allow me to copy and paste in them.

I have gone through every update and security fixes I have done around that time and cant find anything that I did that would cause this.

I have tried repairing IE (found this on some Microsoft forum).

I have triple checked all my permissions and GPO.

I have tried every fix I could find on the internet.

Its weird because its on all drives.

If you do it from the server it doesn't happen.

It happens on all of the computers (no matter what user or admin account you use).

Hi,

May I ask what's the specific error message do you get when you copy/paste? Could you please also show the screenshot?

What permission do you set for the user accounts (Read, modify or else)?

Does the problem happens to all client computers?

You can verify the user permission with "effective permissions". Go to the folder properties > Security > Advanced > Effective Permissions. Click "select" on the right and find the username, the users effective permissions are then displayed in the bottom pane.
Please try Clean Boot on the client  to find if there any third party software conflicts. Temporarily disable the firewall and AV software as well.

Best Regards,

Mary

There is no error message. It just doesn't work. I cant find any error in the event viewer either.

Everyone has read/write permissions to all the drives.

This happens on all the users computers (No matter which user is logged in. I tried with an Admin).

Its not a permission issue because the Admin would of been able to do it.

Clean boot didn't help.

I tried the FW didn't either.

I will try the AV, but I dont think thats it.

Hi TheShartAiel,

When you copy/paste the file, there even no message prompt (like network path not access, access denied)?

If you try to create a file from the client computer, does it work?

And does the problem happen to all files (txt, excel, document and ect)?

Please also temporarily disable UAC to do a check.

Correct. No message shows up at all. That's why I am having such a hard time fixing this.

Creating a file works fine.

This happens to all files and folders.

I do want to note though that I noticed its only inside the same folder.

So I can copy and paste in a Parent folder, just not the same folder.

Let me get back with you on the UAC.

Try removing user from the drive and then re-add the user to the drive and see is there any changes in results or not ?

Any antivirus update in between or any firewall changes on local systems during that time please check that also and try disable all antivirus on local machines and check .

I have already tried added and removing users from drives. I tried re-adding them to the domain too.

Disabling UAC did nothing.

No changes to the Firewall.

The AV is up to date. Disabling it did nothing either.

I am the only Admin that does any Maintenance/Updates on servers/computers/etc on the whole network.
