Create Skype Meeting failed. Please make sure that Skype for Business is running and signed-in and try again

Question

Hi MS,

I am searching now since a few days to find a solution...

Thousands of search entry's can be found... but no real solution.

It's really a shame that such important feature is so buggy, which is one of the main feature used in Business environment.

To describe my Problem:

I have a clean Windows 10 Laptop now. Installed O365 which includes Outlook and Skype.

When I open Skype now, click on create new Skype meeting, then it takes 3-4 seconds and then I am receiving the following error:

"Create Skype Meeting failed. Please make sure that Skype for Business is running and signed-in and try again"

If I close Skype and try to create a Meeting, then it correctly says "Skype is not started.. Please start Skype and try again".

So it finds Skype... But I cant create Skype Meetings...

How can I analyze the root cause of it?

Hi,

Could you please confirm which software you have installed in this laptop, Skype or Skype for Business?
Do you mean when you create Skype Meeting in the Outlook client, it will show error?
Could you simple describe your environment? Such as O365 online, hybrid or On-Premise?

For this issue, according to your description, it only occurs in one laptop, I suggest you could try to follow the steps below to check it:

  1. Make sure the you are using the same account to login Outlook and SFB client in this laptop.
  2. Try to login this account in another PC, then check whether this issue occurs again.
  3. In the laptop, try to delete the following SFB cache files:
    SFB client cache file: %Userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync\sip_XXXXX
    SFB Registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync\sip_XXXXX
  4. In the laptop, try to recreate the outlook profile.
  5. If all above did not fix this issue, please check the version of Outlook and SFB, update the version of the software to the latest.

Best Regards,
Evan Jiang

Hi Evan,

thank you for your reply.

I am using O365 with Office and Skype for Business in 64bit.

Login with the same Account.

I deleted the SFB cache.

Recreated the outlook profile.

Both versions are same as I downloaded one O365 Office package including office and SFB.

But still have the same problem.

I can not test another Laptop or system as I only have this one system and to be honest, I would like to collaborate with you to find the root cause.

Of course I could reinstall Windows or re-create the Windows Profile.. but this is not finding the root cause.

Any idea how we can analyze the root cause?

Should there not be a detailed log file? Or can I enable detailed logging?

Hi,

If you want to analyze the root cause, I suggest you could try to check the Outlook logs in the PC, you could fin the logs in the following path: C:\Users\uername\AppData\Local\Temp.

You could also refer to the following official document to find the details: What is the Enable logging (troubleshooting) option?

Best Regards,
Evan Jiang

Unfortunately not.

I checked the Logfolder but there is no error or exception logged.

At the moment I have no clue how to analyze it if there is not even a clear error...

I guess, I will have to format the PC just because Skype for Business and Outlook don't want to talk to each other...

Hi,

If you try to login your account in another PC, and all works fine, it may have something with the PC your are using now. Then you could format the PC.
