Question

Hi,
We are having problems with our DCHP server (Win 2008 R2). The server seems to be issuing 2 IP addresses per machine on the network, one with the correct DHCP address and then another IP with a DHCP/BOOTP address which you cannot ping. Even when I clear down the DHCP server with the DHCP/BOOTP leases they fill up instantly and sometimes causes the DHCP server to crash and stop issuing addresses until you restart the server.
After trying to find out what was causing it I pin pointed it to our Windows Deployment Server (Win 2012). It seems every image deployed from here to physical devices (laptops) and Virtual machines is having the same issue.
I even built multiple new Deployment Servers and a new image from scratch but the same issue still persists. I even tried using our old 2008 deployment server and still getting same problems.
I built a test environment with a 2012 DHCP server/Domain and 2012 WDS server and the issue is not there.
Can anyone help me or if anyone has had this problem? Is it a windows update that might have caused this?

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that DHCP server assign 2 IP leases to each device.
On your DHCP server, right click DHCP scope and select Properties – Advanced –Assign IP address dynamically to clients of – select DHCP and click Apply and OK to save the change.
Check to see if this option would be work.
Best Regards,
Eve Wang

Hi Eve,
You are correct in the DHCP server is issuing 2 IP address. 1 IP address is correct and showing up as a valid lease the other is showing as a DHCP/BOOTP Lease.
I have tried what you have said above but this has not worked and the DHCP server is still issuing out IP addresses with this type of lease.

Nilesh,
I am having the same issue and was wondering if you ever came up with a solution.

What worked for me was to set the IPv6 Address to dhcp
