My VPN connection is disconnecting every 20 minutes, EventID 20226, code 631

Question

Monday, November 7, 2011 4:18 PM

Hi guys, I have a dedicated server hosted online running Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2, I installed my certificate on it and successfully managed to connect to my VPN (I use SONICWALL's Aventail Connect), this had been working like a charm for the past 4 month however since last week the VPN started to disconnect every 20 minutes or so, one thing I've noticed is that, before it would ask me to reconnect and now the connection just disappears without a sign, I would appreciate any help.

Thank you

btw: I did an extensive search on the forum before posting.

Reason code 631 means "THe port was disconnected by the user."

List of error codes:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824864)

THat could mean a number of things. What type of router/firewall are you using?

Does this happen when only one user is connected, then another user connects, which then disconnects the first user?

FYI, I had a similar problem with one customer, but it was due to their Netgear ProSecure firewall. It would only allow one user to connect at a time, which was I asked what type of router or firewall is being used. I suggested replacing it wtih a Cisco ASA 5505 and the problem went away.

See if this helps to diagnose it further:

Hi Ace, thanks for the input, I will need to contact GoDaddy and ask them what kind of router/firewall they are using.
There is only one user in the server (myself), nobody else connects to it.

I will read those docs and get back here...

GoDaddy? Hmm, I never used their service for something like this.

Are you saying you are using a hosted server on thier end and you setup RRAS for VPN use, and you are running it from their location?

That'sinteresting, and could be part of the issue if there are any limitations to their service and/or firewalls. Curious what they have to say about it.

I have the same trouble with my laptop (Windows 8.1 are installed). My VPN connection get down every 20 min or if I have more than one RDP session to my workplace (for example, more RDP connection to many servers together)? We have Windows Server 2008 R2 with SSTP VPN connection.

Is this case with error code 631 still opened?

Thanks!
