Question

Hey guys,
I am trying to install the visual studio 2015 - 2019 but it keeps getting stuck at the initialization on Windows81_x64. I already deleted al the older versions of visual c++, ran the chkdsk command which found nothing, ran the sfc / scannow which found nothing, updated everything and searched for new updates which there are none. In the logfile of the installer it gives the errors:
- 0x80070642: Bootstrapper application aborted during MSU progress.
- 0x80070642: Failed to execute MSU package.
- 0x80070642: Failed to configure per-machine MSU package.
Do you guys have anything more I can try?

Hi NoVisualsForMe,
Welcome to the MSDN forum.
According to your description, before installing the Visual C++ redistributable packages, you need to download KB2999226, which is reported to fix the issue. This patch applies to all versions of Windows, so it is recommended that you download it before continuing. Once the download Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows is complete, run the installer patch.
Next, download the version of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable that hangs during the install and use the ‘repair’ option using an administrative command prompt. E.g. vc_redist.x64.exe /repair
If you are attempting to install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable x64, please refer to the following link.
Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable x64
Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable x64
Best regards,
Eden
