I need to find what mailbox has a particular alias email address attached to it - how do I do this? 'Find' doesn't find aliases, and get-recipient also doean't find aliases.

Go to AD and do a custom search and then type the below.
proxyAddresses=smtp:[email protected]

get-recipient works for finding proxy addresses on my system.
get-recipient <"email address">
[string](0..33|%{[char][int](46+("686552495351636652556262185355647068516270555358646562655775 0645570").substring(($_*2),2))})-replace " "

Both of those work. Any idea why regular 'Find' doesn't find aliases?

What find are you trying to use? In AD, if yes, search for proxyaddresses, then make sure it sayd ends with, then perform the search, when stating starts with it doesnt work.Sukh
