Question
Tuesday, July 7, 2020 10:56 AM
Hi all,
I could not find this specific question in the forum.
I have shared a file with an external user via share link (view permission) and only granted permission to that specific user.
My question is. Could I check somewhere if that user has downloaded a copy of that file and when?
User is not in Azure AD as guest or anything.
Thanks

You should actually receive an email notification the first time the link is used, other than that you can check the audit log: /en-us/microsoft-365/compliance/search-the-audit-log-in-security-and-compliance?view=o365-worldwide

Hi reddd3rt,
Through audit logs, SharePoint Online supports to check whether an anonymous link is used to access a resource, but it does not support to check whether the external user has downloaded a copy of file until now.
Go to Microsoft 365 admin center -> Security & Compliance -> Search -> Audit log search -> Used an anonymous link.
Best regards,
Emily Du
