SharePoint 2013 does not support SQL 2016. You need to use SQL 2014 at the maximum. As Responded here

Hi MarcPlet,
SharePoint 2013 supports several versions of SQL Server: SQL Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or SQL Server 2012, or SQL Server 2014 64-bit versions.
Refer to the following article about Overview of SQL Server in a SharePoint environment (SharePoint 2013)
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff945791.aspx
Besides, SQL Server 2014 requires the May 2014 Cumulative Update to be installed. To install the May 2014 Cumulative Update see Updates to SharePoint 2013.

Hi MarcPlet,
To add to Waqas, you have to use SP2013 with SP1 to use SQL 2014.
