Microsoft Office 2016 Version & MSO number

Question

Tuesday, September 4, 2018 10:19 AM

Hi All,

How do I get the MSO number of Microsoft Office 2013 & 2016 product. Every month Microsoft release fixes and according to that MSO number change. We are able to view it from Office account information but how do I get same MSO version/build for bulk computers. Any script, registry key or way through SCCM?

Please help.

Puneet

This goes out of scope of this subject, but I'll give you an example still:

$Servers = Get-Content -Pat "C:\Temp\Servers.txt"
ForEach ($server in $Servers) { Invoke-Command -ComputerName $server {Get-Item "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe" | Select-Object -ExpandProperty VersionInfo | Select-Object FileDescription, FileVersion, @{Name='ServerName';Expression={ $env:COMPUTERNAME }} | ft }}

Hi,

You can make use of the Get-WmiObject to find the version of Office installed see the script below:

Get-WmiObject win32_product -ComputerName "insert computer name" | where{$_.Name -like "Microsoft Office Professional Plus*"} | select Name,Version

This works locally & remotely.

You can change the name in the text to your corresponding Microsoft Office.

Best regards,
Leon

Hi,
Based on your description, I find that this is not a simple Office client issue, it‘s mainly related to Windows Server and SCCM. To better resolve the issue, I advise you to post your question at SCCM forum or Windows Server 2012 General forum for help, you may get more appropriate advice according to your scenario.

According to the script provided by Leon, I used Power Shell to verify on my Win7 device. I can view the MSO Version of the local Office Pro Plus installed.

As for whether SCCM can detect the version of Office on each device, I found some information below, maybe it is helpful to you.
Related documentation (a tool written by a TechNet MVP, but requires SQL support):
SCCM Configmgr Report for Count of MS Office Versions updated with list of client
SCCM Configmgr 2012 SSRS Report Count MS Office Versions

If you have any question about Office, please feel free to let me know.
Best Regards,
Herb Gu

I am sorry for late reply.

Thanks Leon & Herb for suggesting the solution. I tried the script but it is showing version number but not MSO number. Microsoft is detecting product update on the basis of MSO number and that is I am looking for. I am attaching screenshot of both where I am getting same version but not MSO build/version.

Please help.

Might want to have a look at this post about this:

You can always read the MSO DLL files for the current ProductVersion, like this:

Wow Leon, I really appreciate your help. Now I can get the MSO through suggested way.

Could you please help me in getting script that can give me same information from multiple remote computers.

Like:

Computer Name - MSO version
