Question
Thursday, January 21, 2016 3:08 PM
My company is currently running windows 7 on their computers. We have a few network connected projectors that we connect to using the "Connect to network projector" program. This allows us to connect to the projectors without using and third party software or drivers.
I am currently testing windows 10 on a couple of computers and do not see where "Connect to a network projector" is an option.
Does anyone know if this is going to be available in windows 10 any time soon or if there is a work around of getting the "connect to a network projector" loaded on windows 10. I don't want to have to install third party software on all the computer that need to connect to these projectors. If this is not going to be available, I doubt my company will upgrade to windows 10 any time soon.
thanks for any information or help on this.

Are these projectors using Miracast? If you hit Windows+P do you see underneath the options to Connect to a Wireless Display? It should be listed there. If it is not, check your video drivers. You will want to see that Wireless Display has 2 Yes indications by running this command froma command prompt:
netsh wlan show drivers
At least the 2nd indicator should say yes but optimally both should say yes. Probably just needs the proper driver installed to then see the option. Hope this helps.

Hi dbarkley68,
Please follow what Tommy suggested, try Windows key + P to see if you could select the proper display settings.
Besides, we could manage the projecter settings under:
Settings->System->Display
For wired connections, plug the projector cable into your VGA, DVI, or HDMI port. In most cases, Windows detects and installs the projector automatically.
If you are using Miracast, follow the steps mentioned in the article below:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/project-wireless-screen-miracast
Should work in Windows 10 also.
Regards

I did the Windows-P but there is nothing there that says connect to a wireless display. Now this computer was upgraded from windows 7.
But I also want the ability to connect up to the projector through the LAN hard wire as well. I don't want to have to use wireless all the time. I never had to do this on windows 7. As long as I was connected to my network, I could connect to the projector. I could even connect up to the project if I was in one of our other plants.
NetProj allowed me to do all of this without have to load anything onto my computers.

Tommy and Moderator,
The original poster is asking about the Connect to a Network Projector feature that was in Windows 7 and 8, but appears missing in Windows 10. As the name suggests, this allows one to connect to a projector (typically in a workplace) using either an Ethernet or WiFi connection. As dbarkley68 already indicated, options for this do not appear on the Windows + P menu.
Connecting via a video cable is probably not an option (it isn't for me, for example - my NEC projector is mounted in the rafters of an auditorium, connected by Ethernet, not a video cable). Many projectors that support the Network Projector capability were designed to work with Windows 7 and 8, and do not support Miracast.
The real question here is whether Windows 10 supports network projectors. If not, then Windows 10 is a step backward for many of us with network projectors that worked beautifully with Windows 7 and 8.

On Windows 10, you can connect to a network projector by going to the Action Center, expanding the controls at the bottom, and clicking "Project". At the bottom of the list, click "Connect to a wireless display". Windows will begin searching for network projectors, and display them in the sidebar, where you can click on one to connect to it.
