Can I Upgrade My 32 bit System to 64?

Question

Tuesday, September 19, 2017 10:57 PM

Hello,

I am trying to figure out if my system is compatible with 64bit. I currently have Windows 10 Pro installed and it's an older custom built system (bought off of Craigslist).

It has an Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 processor which says it is a 32-bit Operating System, x64-based processor. The MB is a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P and it says the system type is x86-based PC.

I read somewhere that x86-based PC means it's not 64 bit compatible, but the information about the processor indicates that it is.

Please help me figure this out.

Thanks!

Yes, that should run a 64-bit OS with no problems. However you cannot upgrade from 32 to b4 bit OS. It would have to be a clean install. You would have to transfer your files and reinstall all programs.

Hi,

32-bit Operating System, x64-based processor, means that your PC is running a 32-bit version of Windows 10 on a 64-bit processor. So your computer supports Windows 10 (64-bit).

If it says 32-bit operating system, x86-based processor, then your computer doesn't support Windows 10 (64-bit).

We could backup vital personal data and perform a clean install to switch to Windows 10 64-bit.
