Please tell me what the exact function of the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration\UpdateChannel key is or does and what are the implications if it differs from the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration\CDNBaseURL key.

We can refer to the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration\CDNBaseURL value to determine the update channel for your Office 365 ProPlus:
Current Channel:
CDNBaseUrl = http://officecdn.microsoft.com/pr/492350f6-3a01-4f97-b9c0-c7c6ddf67d60Deferred Channel:
CDNBaseUrl = http://officecdn.microsoft.com/pr/7ffbc6bf-bc32-4f92-8982-f9dd17fd3114First Release for Current Channel:
CDNBaseUrl = http://officecdn.microsoft.com/pr/64256afe-f5d9-4f86-8936-8840a6a4f5beFirst Release for Deferred Channel:
CDNBaseUrl = http://officecdn.microsoft.com/pr/b8f9b850-328d-4355-9145-c59439a0c4cf
For the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration\UpdateChannel key, it is also different with the CDNBaseUrl key in my machine. And there is no issue with Office updates. You can check the Office updates in your side, if there is no issue, it is safe that the UpdateChannel key is different with the CDNBaseUrl key.

Hi Winnie, unfortunately I already had the information you supplied, I was really trying to mine what exactly the Update Channel key is, what does it do? I already had the CDNBaseURL information and the channels that key represents, they were outlined quite well my MS. Thanks for trying though.

I came across your post as I have the same question. In my case, trying to deploy updates via SCCM stopped working as of January 2018 unless CDNBaseURL and UpdateChannel match. Setting them to the same setting/url allowed me to successfully deploy the O365 update, but after the update they do not match again.

I noticed that altering "CDNBaseURL" actually changes the behavior of updates.
So what is the point of "UpdateChannel"?

I notice the opposite. If i change CDNBaseURL, nothing happens (SCCM software center Updates shows nothing). But if i change UpdateChannel, then Software center shows the deployed update(s)
