Windows 10 shared printer error 0x0000000d

Question

Hello,

a mod from the <g class="gr_ gr_141 gr-alert gr_spell gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="141" id="141">microsoft</g> community forum sent me here.

I have windows 10 on my laptop and cannot print over the shared university printer.

It used to work, but some day it didn't. I uninstalled the printer and tried to reinstall it, but it didn't work due to the error. I go to printers & scanners -> add a printer or scanner -> the printer that I want isn't listed -> select a shared printer by name -> put the name in and click on 'next' -> get the error "Windows cannot connect to the printer." "Operation failed with error 0x0000000d".

  • The last time I was able to use the printer was probably around 2 months ago. I also changed my university password, so maybe it has something to do with that.
  • I connect to the printer wireless over the university wifi, or at home via VPN. It is a shared university printer and one doesn't really send the print job to the printer. I click on print and select the printer and then the print job goes to my university account, so when I log in on a printer with my university card I can print what I have sent to it.
  • I have tried to connect to the other university printer. There are not really two printers, but there's one you send it to so it gets printed black/white on whatever university printer you then go to and one so it gets printed in color. I don't have another printer, but if it helps I could try to connect to a friends printer.
  • Besides Windows updates, I did not change anything.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Search start or printer management open Printer Management. Expand the computer name. Remove the Printer from the Printer section, then remove the driver from the Driver section. Reboot and try again.

Hi,

This issue occurs because the following registry subkey on the print server contains invalid data:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-3\DriverName>\Previous Names

Note In this registry subkey, <DriverName> represents the name of the driver for the printer.

Please backup your registry before doing following steps:

Open Regedit.exe and locate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-3\DriverName>\Previous Names

Right click the DriverName key and choose Export to save as Printer.reg file.

Right click the printer.reg file and open with Notepad,

Locate the sentence which starts with the "Previous Names" string, and then replace the sentence with the following text:

"Previous Names"=hex(7):00,00,00,00

Then, click Save in Notepad. Right-click the file that you saved and choose Ok to merge.

At last, restart the Spooler service in services.msc. Please check if your issue can be resolved.

**In addition, please make sure to update the latest printer driver on your Printer server PC. **
