Word 2013 to Word 2016 - Image of header/footer enlarged on print

Question

Tuesday, November 15, 2016 3:17 PM

Hi,

I've noticed a problem in Word 2016.  We have many documents with a 'letterhead' background image added as a header/footer.  It looks fine on the page in all views on Word, but when printed, it enlarges the image to about double the size, messing up the look of the page. This document was created in Word 2013 (or maybe even older!)

I have re-created the letterhead document template from scratch in Word 2016 and the file prints without a problem.  It only affects existing documents.  The problem is my organisation has hundreds of these letters that are now ruined when printed.

An example document is available here https://1drv.ms/w/s!And-omWmQEj1cT8NtXCXoK4fGTQ

Word online prints fine as you can tell, it only affects Word 2016!

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

I tested this problem in my environment Word 2016(version: 16.0.6965.2105), I don't have Printer to help you print the document. I print the file to PDF and I didn't get any problems with Header and footer.

First I suggest you try to confirm if you print to PDF if it will work fine.

Then could you provide a screenshot about the problem paper?

Please provide more information about this problem and I'm glad to help you.

Hi,

Thanks for replying.  Yes, exporting to PDF works.  The problem is with printing out to paper.  Print preview is ok too.  The document printed fine on Word 2013 but the issue occurs on all documents with the image header/footer background as a letterhead in Word 2016.

See the scan below.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Our environment is limited, I printed and tested this problem in my environment Office 2016 with your sample document. As shown in the following figure:

I didn't get your problem in my environment, please try to change a printer and check the result.

You can also try to remove the printer and re-add it, re-install the printer driver.

I'm totally confused.  How can it be the printer driver, when the problem occurs on at least 3 different printers on at least 4 different computers?!

Hi Paul,

I didn't notice this problem in your environment is appeared in different computers and printers. In my environment, I can print the Word file without any problems so I think this problem may related to your environment.

Please provide your Word 2016 Build-number, please go to File- Account- About Word:

I need to confirm if the update for Office got this problem.

How can I escalate this issue to Microsoft?

Is there a way to report bugs?

Thanks,

Paul
