Question

Hi,
I am facing a strange issue.
There is no SMSPXE.log file in C:\SMS_DP$\SMS\Logs location in DP. It is a remote Distribution Point.
Checked the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\DP\Logging\GLOBAL and the value for "LogDirectory" entry is "\logs" instead of "C:\SMS_DP$\SMS\Logs. Checked with couple of DPs which is having the same values.
Modified the registry entry to the above value and restarted the WDS service on the machine. It is taking back to "\logs" value.
Please help me in this regard.

That's pre- 2012 SP1. Post SP1, the log file is in the location noted by the OP.
So the question now becomes, what version of ConfigMgr are you running?

Do you have any other SCCM roles in this DP?

On my DPs HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\DP\Logging was empty and I also had no SMSPXE.log in C:\SMS_DP$\SMS\Logs (for me it's D: but same thing)
I ended up running a search on the whole server for smspxe.log and found 5(!) in different places. I won't list them, you guys can have a blast searching yourself but the active one was eventually found at C:\Windows\CCM\Logs.
Don't ask me why it's there, I'm just glad I found it.
I'm using SCCM 2016 version 1702.

If you have other roles on the machine that use the ccmcore framework (e.g., MP, client, MCS, etc), they will all log to the same location. The same thing will happen to the SMSPXE.log file. Once the other roles get activated, the SMSPXE log file will move to the common ccmcore framework logging location.

Semantic side note: There's no such thing on ConfigMgr/SCCM 2016. The product is called ConfigMgr Current Branch.
