Our Hyper-V Host had a power failure over the weekend and we came back in to the office this morning and saw that the server was Off-critical in the Hyper-V console. Trying to log-on to the server, I got the above message. The location in the error message had a symbolic link to the XML file, which we could not move. What causes this error? How would we fix it?

Then I'd delete the virtual machine from hypervisor, (this doesn't delete files) move the files to new or correct locations and import it again.

Not sure what you meant about moving file? Maybe this one helps.

Nope, this does not help. By moving file, I mean copying the file from the location it was in to the proper location under C:\programdata\microsoft\windows\hyper-v\virtual machines

Hi ,
For the VM off-critical issue, we can see the error message “failed to lock VM’s configuration”.
As Dave provided, it may be caused by the storage unavailable, which the configuration store.
If the VM is cluster resource, we could run the PowerShell command: Update-ClusterVirtualMachineConfiguration for the problematic issue.
/en-us/powershell/module/failoverclusters/update-clustervirtualmachineconfiguration?view=win10-ps
if we still cannot re-store the VM, we may create new configuration for the VHDX.

Frank
