Question

Hallo TechNet,
I have the following setup:
2 windows 10 pcs one local and one remote.
I use Remote Desktop Connection to control the remote pc form my local pc.
A device generating an anlog sound signal is connected via the "line in" jack to the sound card of the remote pc.
What I want:
Listen to the sound arriving on the line in of the remote pc on my local pc. So I don't want to recode it into a file to listen to it later I want to listen to it live.
What I already tried:
Every sound option in the Remote Desktop Connection client on my local pc. None does what I want.
Either I hear the sound that is played on the remote pc (like playing a YouTube video there) or I hear nothing when I chose "play on remote pc" which makes sence because it is then really played there.
There is also this option "recode from this computer" but this will route the line in or microphone from the local pc to the audio input of the remote pc which is basically the opposite of what I want.
thanks in advance and kind regards
P.S.: If this is impossible using the Remote Desktop Connection I will happily try solutions to the problem with other means / tools.

HI
Thanks for detail explaining your condition.
1."What I need to know: Is it even possible to listen to the signal of a line in or microphone connected to the remote pc on my local pc when connected via Remote Desktop Connection?"
if you use Remote Desktop Connection, I think it is no possible.
For example:
local win10 pc:
output device:headset
input device :micrphone
remote win10 pc:
output device:loudspeaker
input device :micrphone
since when you set"play on this computer" and "record from this computer" in remote desktop connection like picture 1 and remote access from local win10pc to remote win10 pc,your local input(or output device)of win10pc will be redirect to remote session of remote win10 pc,after that, there will be "remote audio" of microphone and "remote audio" of speaker listed in device manager on remote win10 pc like picture 2.since there will be only one active session on remote pc ,your loudspeaker will be no sound and input device :microphone will not record your sound in local session.
2.do you consider using TeamViewer ?
Communication - Audio/Video - VoIP

Try the following guide - https://billing.dotblock.com/knowledgebase/106/How-do-I-enable-audio-over-Remote-Desktop.html

This guide seems to be for general problems with audio and Remote Desktop Connection. But in general the remote audio is working.
Espically I already tried everything mentioned in this guide mentioned under 2)
And as I said what is already working is:
* Playing audio in general and listening and recoding audio with the line in directly on the remote pc
* Logging on to the remote pc via Remote Desktop Connection with the Option "play on remote compute" and the checking that indeed everything is played on the remote pc also piping of the line in to the output stream of the remote pc still works then
* Logging on to the remote pc via Remote Desktop Connection with the Option "Play on this computer" and then hearing everything that is played on the remote pc on my local pc BUT the moment I log in with his option "Play on this computer"all audio input devices on remote pc disapear from the sound device list.
* Routing my local microphone to the remote pc is also working (I need the check this option for that, of course: "Click 'Show Options' -> Local Resources -> Remote audio ->Settings -> Remote Audio Recording -> check Record from this computer.") one recording device called "Remte audio" appears in the sound device list of the remote pc when this option is on ... this represents the sound stream from my local pc
What I need to know: Is it even possible to listen to the signal of a line in or microphone connected to the remote pc on my local pc when connected via Remote Desktop Connection?
