Click-to-Run and VisioPro 2016

Question

Monday, November 23, 2015 2:13 PM

I have a personal Office365 subscription and am trying to install a purchased copy of Visio Pro 2016 along side Office365 2016. The installer won't let me do that. It states;

"We're sorry. Microsoft Office installer encountered a problem because you have these Click-to-Run installer based Office Programs installed on your computer:  Microsoft Office 365 - en-us..."

how can I get these two installed together? I don't want to have to pay for a Visio Pro 365 subscription along side my existing Office365 subscription. Is there an MSI installer for Office365 or another work around?

Hi,

As far as I know, Office installed using Click-to-Run and Window Installer on same computer isn't supported. For more detail information, please refer to the following link:

https://support.office.com/en-au/article/Office-installed-using-Click-to-Run-and-Window-Installer-on-same-computer-isn-t-supported-30775ef4-fa77-4f47-98fb-c5826a6926cd

Based on the scenario now, we can ask for a C2R version of Visio 2016 pro. Please use your product key and download from here:

Hey George, how is this a resolution to the OPs question?

Just went through this rigamarole with Office Home & Business 2016 FPP and Visio 2016 Standard Open License.

Using the Office Deployment Tool DOES allow installation of Visio (see previous posts for links).

The trick is to get the syntax correct for running the tool - see:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219426

and

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2842297

And you want to end up running an elevated command prompt with syntax like this:

\<networkshare>\Install\Visio\setup.exe /configure \<networkshare>\Install\Visio\configuration.xml

The NEXT trick is to get a license key that works. The Open License I sold to my client only provided a MAK key, which doesn't work (Visio reports the installation is NOT an open license version).

I have a ticket open with Microsoft and they are aware of the issue and will be providing us with a key that will work - BUT THAT IS GOING TO TAKE 6-7 DAYS.

Argh.

Hi

Were you able to get a valid key from MS?

I have exactly the same case now. I called and contacted different MS VL support, but they seem not aware of this and don't want to do anything.

Thanks

This is not accurate.

Just wanted to say, this is a big pain and not a great way to drive csat scores. I am sure you have some sad reason to have 2 different incompatible installers, but I dont really care, from my perspective as a customer its just a pain, and just looks like you didnt plan properly and ended up with 2 incompatible installers and dont want to do the work to drive compatibility so you just push the pain off onto your customers instead of providing a proper fix. A lot of us have to work through our IT department so we dont just have different keys and cant just install your executable directly from your website. Even if I knew how to fix this crap I have to go to IT and hope they already have a working process to fix this. What a pain, another day, another worse impression of msft.

I just found this problem and at this point ordered all Microsoft products removed. That $4k savings will be invested in new hardware and to hell with what ever reason Microsoft felt justified wasting customers time.

Hi,

Although this is an old post, I have been having the same problem. Trying to install Visio Professional 2016 from the Volume Licensing Service Center after having already installed Office 365 Professional Plus from my Office 365 UI online.

It seems as if one solution is to use the Deployment Tool, but I have found a much simpler way to solve the problem. Uninstall Office and then start the install of both Office and Visio at the same time. Both pieces of software will install without the Click-to-run problems.

Best regards

Running both installers at the same time works !! ive spent the last couple of hours trying to get both to work and download the "right versions" why can't microshit just let you install them together ? they clearly work !!

This worked for me also.

  • Windows 10 PC - Uninstall office 2016 (C2R)
  • Reboot PC
  • Install office(from portal.office.com  C2R)  and Visio at exact same time!!!!

Wow. That totally worked! Nice trick! (I didn't need to do the reboot first though)
