Hi,

The error message indicates that the file is corrupted. And follow the methods listed in the following link to troubleshoot the damaged file:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918429?wa=wsignin1.0

The links applies to Word 2007 and Word 2010, but we can refer to it.

Also, as for the error message, here are some similar cases for you to refer:

Hi Guys,

Another solution to this I found is to open the document in Wordpad and save as an XML doc.

Then rename it as a Word document and hey presto it should open.

I tested this myself on a corrupt document I had.

Thank you, Nobbly30.  This worked like a charm for my corrupted doc in Word 2013.  Very helpful!!!

I had a similar error trying to open a .docx with Word 2016. The location identified was line 0, column 0.

I tried opening using Word 2003, but got a lack of memory error while navigating the folders. So responding to that memory issue, I opened task manager to view the memory state. Only 68% was in use, but I closed Word 2003 and another user app which was using the most memory.

Then I was able to open the document in Word 2016.

Wow - you may have just saved my career... :-)

I lost a pretty important requirements document and I'm not sure "sharepoint ate my homework" was going to be a good enough excuse...

thanks for sharing!

I had the same error in Word 2016 where the location was line 0, column 0 as well.  Saved the file as a Word 97-2003 (.doc) file then I was able to open in Word 2016.  Thanks!
