How to Modify Wireless Profile - Custom Certificate/Single Sign-On Properties for Windows 10 Manually created?

Question

Friday, October 30, 2015 8:50 PM

With Windows 10 we need to modify custom properties for Wireless Profiles like Smart Card and whether it is User or Computer, single sign-on, add a new certificate, etc. We need users to be able to go to the profile, like they did with Windows 7 under "manage wireless settings", and see the advanced properties and check the certs. We don't broadcast our SSIDs.

However, that appears to be Gone in Windows 10? There is no "manage wireless settings"

I can create a "custom" wireless profile, NOT broadcasting its Name, and set the certificate and the method to connect. I can add the single sign on and the cert but once it is created I cannot find out how to open those GUI tabs again? Where did they move it to? It says MYSID Wireless Network Properties and "Advanced Settings" and all the settings are there when I create it but once it is created it is like it becomes a Ghost?

I am not exactly sure why Windows 10 is so limited? There should be a rule within Microsoft that they NEVER remove functionality. They have done it with Windows 8, which is why it bombed and everyone hated it. Vista did it too removing the file type open tabs which they have still yet to put back.

Hi,

According to your description, “Managing wireless connections settings” should still persists in Windows 10, navigate to settings->NETWORK&INTERNET->Wi-Fi, you could manager your Wi-Fi profile here, the “Advanced options” and “Manager Wi-Fi settings” you mentioned should be also here, Since we don’t have Wi-Fi environment we might not be able to test it for you. But I think there is no difference with previous Windows.

In Windows 10 there is no "manage wireless settings" That is why I posted the question. It is definitely removed functionality as you cannot even launch the settings window with the command line. They only way you can modify a profile is if you are directly connected and the profile is active and then go into the properties of the connection. This is useless for corporate environments that pre-set profiles depending on site.

Have you looked in the Network and Sharing Center of the control panel? It looks and functions like it did in Windows 7.

I think you'll find what you're looking for there.

Simply search for "Network" from the search bar to find it quickly.

Yes I am a computer engineer so I know my way around Windows pretty well. It is not there. Do you have a Windows 10 laptop? You can see for yourself. We are running latest build of Windows 10 Enterprise. Apparently I am not the only one to find it missing. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_web/windows-10-enterprise-where-is-the-manage-wireless/c533088d-953c-45c2-95ac-e86326eb5b05?auth=1

Hi,

Seems like you are right about this, we don’t have wireless on our test environment, and it’s really a pain to us. I searched photos and videos on line and found there are only few option in Metro UI such like forget. And lots of complain about this. I guess Netsh command might be the only option if you don’t want to use other tools for now.
