windows 10 remote desktop disconnects because client access license modified ???

Question

Sunday, January 8, 2017 9:45 AM

On my surface pro 3 with windows 10 - any attempt to use remote desktop to a particular server results in the message "The Remote session was disconnected because the Remote Desktop client access license stored on this machine has been modified."

I've tried removing entries associated with this server (access to other windows servers works OK)

Ive tried to locate where this license is stores so I can delete it.  Nothing seems to work.

1.  Click on Start
2.  In the start search box type REGEDIT and press enter.
3. In the registry editor access the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing\Store

then delete what you find in the "Store" folder.

Hi Glenn,

For 64-bit OS, try to delete:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSLicensing
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\MSLicensing

Remember to beck up the registry before any change, it would be helpful for restoring if any problem happen.

If this issue still persists, please Right-Click on the Remote Desktop Connection icon and select “Run as Administrator“.

Initially I had removed the user key but that didn't work - removing this key worked.
