Question

Hello,
My wife's HP Envyx360 restarted after an update and booted to the BitLocker recovery screen. She does not remember setting up BitLocker. I logged into her Microsoft account and she has no recovery keys listed there. I tried to restore the laptop, but even to do a full restore through the recovery menu I am still asked for a BitLocker recovery key. How can I restore this laptop without the key? She bought it from Best Buy in August and it came with no recovery media.
Thank you,
Will
P.S. If you've seen this before, its because I made a TechNet account for myself while logged into my wife's account.....

Follow the steps mentioned in the above link to create installation media (USB flash drive or DVD) you can use to install a new copy of Windows 10, perform a clean installation, or reinstall Windows 10.

Hi Will,
Check if you could restore your wife's HP Envyx360 to the factory state, if so, there is a possibility that login again.
If not, according to your description, the only way is format the disk and clean install.
However, I still advise you double check her Microsoft account, because BitLocker automatic device encryption is enabled only after users sign in with a Microsoft Account or an Azure Active Directory account. BitLocker automatic device encryption is not enabled with local accounts
Regards
