Windows explorer does not refresh after editing files

Question

Thursday, January 23, 2020 8:26 AM

Hi,

We are currently using Windows 1903 in our company, and every now and then we get a complaint that the windows explorer is not refreshing. After restarting Windows it works normally. Or as a quick fix we tell the colleagues to press F5. Is there a known problem and a solution for this irritating problem?

Cheers

Hello,

Try resetting File Explorer (explorer.exe) process:

1. Press Windows Key + R and type SYSDM.CPL in Run. Click OK or press Enter key.

2. In System Properties window, switch to Advanced tab, click Settings under Performance.

3. Next, in Performance Options, under Processor scheduling, make sure that Adjust for best performance of: is set to Programs.

4. Then in the same window, under Virtual memory, click Settings button.

5. On Virtual Memory page, make sure Automatically manage paging file sizes for all drives option is checked. Click OK, then Apply, OK on rest of windows.

6. Reboot the machine and see if issue is resolved now.

Let us know if this helps!

Hi Kapil.Arya,

thank you for your reply. Are you basing your answer on a real-life scenario that you or other colleagues experienced? I am asking this because the issue is strange, most of the affected Windows were freshly installed (2-3 Months ago).

I currently have no way of testing this until somebody reports the problem so it could be a while until I can give you a feedback.

Cheers

Hi Tonito,

This is general advice we offer to OPs reporting this problem. As you said explorer is not refreshing, so resetting it may solve the problem.

You may try testing this on single machine and check if it works.

I'll be waiting for the your update.

Regards.

Hi,

In addition, you could reset Search settings in Windows Explorer.

Open Windows Explorer View > Options>Change folder and Search options>Search

Check or uncheck any option in that tab, and click Apply. Revert to your original setting and click OK.

Reset folder views

1.Open a folder window

2.From the File menu, select Folder and Search Options

3.Select the View tab of the Folder Options dialog.

4.Click the Reset Folders button.

Or I consider that you could re-create explorer.exe process in Task Manager.

Meanwhile, if only few users account met this issue, it may be related to the user profile. I suggest that create user profile to check.

Regards,

Hi Carl,

I was wondering how can you mark a reply as proposed answer if it has not been tested in the field?
