Hi,
According to your description, you have enabled the "Update apps automatically" option in Microsoft Store Setting.
If we choose an app and update manually whether this is successful or not.
Type "winver" in Search Bar to check the system OS build. Previous versions of the system may had this problem. So check for update, if we find some security updates, please install firstly.
Meanwhile, check related group policy and registry below:
Group policy:
Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Store
Turn off Automatic Download and Install of updates》disable
Registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsStore
AutoDownload DWORD
delete DWORD = default
2 = always off
4 = always on
