Excel Profile Locations

Question

Thursday, December 20, 2018 7:56 PM

Hello,

I've had two strange issues with excel that work under my profile as normal on a Windows 10 PC ( Office 365 )
1.) AddIns would rarely show up for the customer, if they did upon exiting and going back into Excel they would be gone.
2.) Macro file located under %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART fails to load as the customer.

I've had to completely destroy and recreate their profiles to get these working and I would prefer if there were certain items to delete so I'm not taking an hour of their time and potentially missing a map drive or printer etc...

To remove and recreate their profile:
I move their profile data to another folder on the root
delete their profile folder
go into the registry and delete their keys

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileGuid

Hi,

Based on your description, I know that there is two issues with some users when using Excel and Excel works properly under your account. Is there any difference between your account and these users’? For example, they and you have different account types or permission settings?

Now, you want to delete some items in Excel profile instead of completely removing and recreating users’ profile to fix the two issue with Excel. Is my understanding correct? If I misunderstand anything, please feel free to let me know.

Maybe you can provide more information to help me analyze the issue for you:

  • Does the issue only occur in Excel? Does the issue also occur with other Office applications , such as Word, PowerPoint?
  • Do you use any other tools to manage using of Office, such as GPO? Could you describe your current scenario in more detail?

In addition, you can try to reset Office to check if Excel could work properly:

Important: For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, read 322756 How to back up and restore the registry in Windows.

  1. Quit all Office applications.
  2. Open Registry Editor.Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office, rename Office folder.
  3. Restart Excel.

If you have any update, please feel free to let us know.

Best Regards,

Herb
