Hello There Greta84,

I had the same problem with outlook 2013 and solved it by doing a couple of things.

-first I disabled the "Google Cloud connect" add-ins in both "Word" and "Excel" (this only applies it you have it installed). if not just do the second step.

Secondly I disabled protected view in word.

Please Note : If you do  this- then 'any' file that you download from 'unknown' sources could cause harm on your computer if you open it.

1. Launch Microsoft Word (or Excel, Powerpoint, etc).

2. Click the 'File' menu

3. Choose 'Options'

4. Choose 'Trust Center'

5. Choose 'Trust Center Settings'

6. Choose 'Protected View'

7. Un-select the 'Enable Protected View for files originating from the Internet'

Hi,

"the word program is opening normally when no files are involved"

What's the meaning of this words?

Did you run this "Fix it" tool?

If yes, the issue still persists, please try to Clean Boot in your operating system to eliminate software conflicts:
