Hi,

What is your operating system? Does the crash occur in a single file excel or excel application?

If only a single Excel file crush. Could you give us more information about what’s the source of the file and what did you do lead to the crush. And maybe you can manual repair the excel file through the following steps:

  1. Click “File” > “Open”
  2. Click the location and folder that contains the corrupted workbook
  3. In the “Open” dialog box, select the corrupted workbook
  4. Click the arrow next to the “Open” button, and the click “Open and Repair”

If excel application crushes. Please try to “Repair” your office 2019, Follow the steps below:

  1. Open “Control Panel” > “Programs” > “Programs and Features”
  2. Right-click on Microsoft Office 2019 and select “Change” > “Quick Repair”

If the issue still persists, in case the problem is caused by a third party add-ins, please try running excel in safe mode (Press Win + R, type “excel /safe”, press Enter.) and check the result.

Any update, feel free to post back.

Bella Wu

Hi,

same problem on my Win10 1809 machine.

I'm not able to create a chart even in a newly created excel sheet. After selecting some cells and clicking on the chart button under "insert" I receive a message telling me that I have to select cells first. On another machine with Excel 2016 everything works well.

When using the small icon in the lower right corner of a selection, Excel crashes. In the event viewer I found this message:

Faulting application name: EXCEL.EXE, version: 16.0.11425.20228, time stamp: 0x5cb6a3e0
Faulting module name: chart.dll, version: 16.0.11425.20218, time stamp: 0x5cb168be
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0000000000004db6
Faulting process id: 0x12e4
Faulting application start time: 0x01d4f93a7089c204
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\EXCEL.EXE
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\chart.dll

Faulting package-relative application ID:

I already tried both repair options (local and online version). Any further suggestions?

Edit: Just updated to build 11425.20244 and the problem still persists. Running in safe mode also causes a crash.

Edit2: Problem solved with Office version 1904 (Build 11601.20144)
