_MSDCS Folder Greyed Out

Question

Friday, September 9, 2016 10:19 AM

Hi All,

Just looking for clarification.

Environment = Server 2003R2 Domain with 2 x Root DCs and 2 x Child DCs

In DNS the _MSDCS folder in the forward lookup zone for the root domain is greyed out. It did have an old (since removed) DC as the only record in the folder. In the properties for the folder I removed the old DC and added the two DCs for the root domain but the folder remains grey as per the following image:

There are many threads on this but it looks like the best course of action is to delete the folder and re-create the folder and the best guide for doing so I can find is here: Delete and Recreate _MSDCS

Before doing this I wanted to make sure this was the right way to go about things?

Many thanks for your help
