No sound in remote desktop

Question

Tuesday, March 31, 2020 12:16 AM

Hello, I'm trying to get sound redirection working through the remote desktop app.

Both the remote and client PC are running windows 10 (with the remote running Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB). Both have working sound on their own, but none when connected via remote desktop.

So far I have tried:

  • Ensuring the "play on this computer" option is checked in the remote desktop connection settings
  • Ensured the "Windows Audio" and "Remote Desktop Services UserMode Port Redirector" services are set to automatic
  • Ensured the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\fDisableAudioCapture registrky value was set to 0

Hello,

Clear the Audio Mapping checkbox, as mentioned in answer provided here:

https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/86420-no-sound-in-rdp

See if that helps!

are both local win10 and remote win10 physical computer ?

2.if we enter gpresult /h c:\audio.html in command prompt on remote pc and open audio.html in edge broswer ,do you

4.when we select "play on this computer" option on local win10 and remote access the remote win10 ,can you see "remote audio" and "remote audio" in device manager ?

5.if we download the latest audio driver from third-party official website and install them on both local win10 and remote win10 ,will the same issue happen ?

6.which type of  headset do you use ? usb headset or 3.5mm headset?

Go to the 'Terminal Services Configuration' section (under Admin tools, under Control Panel) Double click on 'RDP-TCP' Select the 'Client Settings' tab. Clear the 'Audio Mapping' check box.

First, let me thank you all for the swift replies.

I've seen the suggestion to change that check box in 'Terminal Services Configuration', however there is no 'Terminal Services Configuration' under Administrative Tools (perhaps because I'm not running Windows Server?)

To answer Andy YOU's questions:

  1. The remote is not in a domain, just in the default workgroup (WORKGROUP). Client is in a specific domain. Both are physical computers.

  2. Yes, that policy is enabled

  3. Remote: Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.3564) Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB
Client:        Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.418) Windows 10 Pro

  4. Yes I see them both as the volume control, and in the device manager

  5. The drivers appear to be up to date on both machines

  6. I have tried using both the built in speakers, and a usb head set on the client machine.

Still struggling with this, can't get audio to redirect at all...

Unfortunately, it is the local, client machine that I can't install any additional software on, so I'm stuck trying to use windows remote desktop, and sound is a must...

HI

"client machine that I can't install any additional software on"
7.from this description ,did you use domain account to logon this client computer ?

8.if we create a new local admin account on this client win10(1903)and remote access the remote computer win10(1607),will no sound also happen ?

9.when the problem happen ,did you check below service are running on both client and remote computer?
windows audio
windows audio endpoint builder
Remote Desktop Services UserMode Port Redirector

10.do you have another win10 computer can be involved for testing so that we can narrow down your issue to remote pc or client pc?

for example:
pc1 client computer: win10pro 1903
pc2 remote computer:win10LTSB 1607
pc3 involved clean installed computer:win10 1903
if we use pc3 remote access to pc2 ,there is no sound in remote session ,we can narrow down current issue to remote computer.
11.did you try to download and install the latest audio driver from physical computer's offical website for both client win10 and remote win10 ?

12.we can use below link method to verify your technet forum account so that you can post picture and website link.

7) Yes, I do use a domain account to log on to the client computer
8) The account I use is an admin account, I cannot make new accounts.
9) Yes, all 3 of those services are/were running on both PCs
10) I was able to get a friend with a windows 10 PC to connect, also no sound there.
11) Just updated both audio drivers from the official websites, no change.

  1. I think my account is already verified, thanks
