Question
Monday, November 25, 2019 1:11 PM
I updated the pc hoping it would resolve a printing issue, but with no succes.
The PC prints a test page to the network with no issues, and will print a pdf file; however printing an open document or email open in thunderbird results in a printing error.
I have run SFC/scannow which reported and fixed errors. A second sfc /scannow showed all ok, but printing issues remain.
Grateful for any ideas or suggestions. Sorry cant provide more detail at present as my client is at some distance.

Hi John,
Thank you for detailed information.
I understand the issue as like this:
If this is correct, I also think it's confusing, strange.
Please try the below:
- download the latest printer driver and install it
- do Windows Update manually: [Settings] > [Windows Update]

Hi john errington,
Is there any progress with the issue?
I'd like to confirm:
- How is the printer connected to your computer?
e.g. connected to a computer as a shared printer, connected to a network hub with a LAN cable, ... - Is KB4524147 installed in the computer?
If not, download and install it.

Hi john,
Firstly, suggest you running SFC/scannow at least 3 times and then check whether it works.
Secondly, try to clear and reset the printer spooler which is in charge for managing the printing process, please refer to the Microsoft article:
Fix printer connection and printing problems in Windows 10
Besides, check whether your printer driver is the latest version ,if not, please update your printer driver to latest version.
More details you can refer to the following link:
Hope can help you. Have a nice day!
Best Regards,
Kiki

I can not print from an email or word document.
However if I print it to a .pdf I can then print the pdf.

I'm wondering why you don't answer my questions straightforward.
But, putting it aside, which/what printer do you use while you can not print?
or what is your default printer?
# If you use Windows 10, you can know what the default printer is:
Open [Control Panel] > [View devices and printers]
Please reply straightforward.

Answering your questions as straightforward as I can:
I CAN View a pdf. I can PRINT a .pdf.
I can print from word to a .pdf file using microsoft print to pdf.
Then I can print that pdf.
I can not print directly from word, email or browser to the default printer
Which is a Kyocera Ecosys M6035cidn.
But I CAN print a pdf document to the printer.
Confusing.

All of your replies have been good answers; however the problem remains unsolved.
After downloading and installing the latest driver I can: print a test page; change the settings; print a .pdf
however it still does not print from document apps.
Its a mystery.
I'll ask my client to run sfc/scannow again three times (is three lucky?) and see if that helps.
