Question
Friday, November 23, 2018 7:58 PM
My PC is always plugged in, so in theory should NOT be detected as being on battery ever.
In Sleep settings, there is only a setting for disconnect from the network when PC is *ON BATTERY* power = NEVER
When I wake the computer from sleep, it does not re-establish connection with the network. In Device Manager, the adapter is no longer listed. I hit "Scan for new hardware" then it shows up and re-establishes the connection. Alternately, I can restart the computer and the ethernet connection will come up fine. Wireless does appear to stay connected during sleep. Ethernet does not stay connected at sleep, whether it is used alone or if wireless is also connected.
2 other PCs (different models) are connected to the same switch via ethernet cables; no issue with those at sleep.
I am okay if it disconnects during sleep, but I do need it to re-establish automatically once woken.
There is no "power management" tab in the adapter properties.
I updated to the Oct 2018 Realtek driver (version 10.x); rolled back to version 9.x; reset defaults for sleep; reset networking and ran the network troubleshooter, all to no avail.

Temporarily resolved with the help of the manufacturer.
A setting in the BIOS of this unit (this varies by manufacturer and model - YMMV) is enabled by default to disconnect ethernet for power saving during sleep.
By disabling this setting now, it never loses the LAN connection at all.
This is not a satisfactory resolution though - The issue is not really that it loses connectivity at sleep. That would be acceptable as long as it would re-establish automatically upon waking. It is not just terminating the connection nor disabling the adapter; if it were just being disabled, the adapter would still be listed in Device Manager. But it disappears altogether. Unplugging and replugging the LAN cable in this state has no effect. Only "scan for new hardware" (or reboot) brings it back.

In the adapter properties, I have disabled all:
Advanced EEE, Energy Efficient Ethernet, Green ethernet
"WOL and shutdown Link Speed" = "not speed down"

Hello OttIT,
Thank you for your question.
Since we don't have such an adapter, we can't do further testing and research. But after my colleagues and I have discussed and studied this issue, we suggest that you install the latest driver or keep the computer connected to the network while in sleep mode.
You can install the latest drivers by referring to the two methods in the links below.

If this is still not feasible, go to Settings->System->Power&Sleep. Then select "Never" in the option box below the network connection to allow the computer to connect to the network while it's in sleep mode. ( Due to the different versions of Windows 10, your computer may not have these settings. )

Leon

Nope. Not helpful at all. I said I had updated to the Oct 2018 driver - this is the latest.
I said I had that setting at NEVER; plus that setting is supposed to be for when it's "on battery" so it should not come into play anyway. My Windows is 1809. Is there such a setting for when not on battery as well in some Windows ?

Hello OttIT,
Please perform a clean boot on a Windows 10 machine to check if a third-party program is affecting your adapter.
How to perform clean boot on Windows 10: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-clean-boot-windows-10

In a clean boot environment, check if the same issue still exists after waking from sleep mode.
