Question
Tuesday, September 28, 2010 9:46 PM
I have a Windows 7 laptop that I cannot upgrade to Office Pro 2010 64x and SharePoint Designer 2010 64x. Office Pro 2010 installs and reports version 14.0.4763.1000. But installation of SharePoint Designer stops with the error message that it cannot proceed while 32-bit applications are installed, specifically "Microsoft Office Single Image 2010". I looked through Control Pannel > Programs and appwiz.cpl, but cannot find any reference to "Microsoft Office Single Image 2010".
Can somebody give me a tip on a way forward?

I did'nt find the program in the features of Microsoft Office 2010.
I have the same problem trying to install Microsoft Project 2010 and I think that the Single Image 2010 is like a feature of Office or windows vista that is install without any entry in the program list r feature list of office.

By searching in the registry with Single Image I find a Uninstall String
MsiExec.exe /X{90140000-003D-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}
I will hope in does'nt erase the entire office ;-)

I am having the same problem when trying to Install Project 2010 and I can't find the entry mentioned above in my registry so I'd advice against deleting it.
I've found a cure. Go online, search for and download msicuu2.exe (no longer available from the microsoft website) and install it. Restart your pc and run this Windows Install Clean Up app. It will list all applications and Microsoft Office Single Image 2010 will show up in the list. Select it and click on the remove button.
Then install your 2010 software. Microsoft Priject Professional 2010 just successfully installed on my laptop so this procedure works!

I had an issue installing Visio 2010 64bit on Win7 as it complained about 32bit MS Office Single Image 2010 needing to be removed. I went to this site: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
(its a link off the site in For4six's post)
I ran "Fix it", found MS Office Single Image 2010 and uninstalled it. Visio installed OK after that. Hope this helps.

Based on my experience. It happened to me for the first time this Morning when I turned on my desktop. I found that my Office 2010 installed programs were fine, the problem was with ALL the shortcuts, including the ones in the Start menu and the ones I had put on the desktop and on the bottom tray. All the office shortcuts pointed to "Office single image" instead of the normal office program executables. I had not (obviously) set them that way and until yesterday they obviously were fine. No idea who or what changed them overnight or why. Internet searches shed no light on the possible cause. Anyway I found where all the office program executable files are (e.g. outlook.exe, word.exe, excel.exe, etc.), I deleted ALL the shortcuts to the Office programs, then right clicked on the icons of the various .exe programs and created new shortcuts (on my desktop) and also pinned new shortcuts to the start menu. Time consuming but worked for me.

Dear Fornell,
First, GREAT sleuthework for finding the TRUE PROBLEM (of the 20-50 forums on it, only you found this):The true problem being a MAPPING problem, apparently. I've had the same problem that's been naggin' you too, for years now!! Usually just uninstalling Single Image with msicuu and then overinstalling office works, but that's NO LONGER AN OPTION, and is no longer working. So I came here to say "THANKS" and "Great job!", because I was able to VERIFY that what you said is EXACTLY CORRECT: Office files (or shortcuts to your files) are improperly mapped to "...Single Image...", and you know FIGURED THAT OUT BY GOING INTO THE PROGRAM FILES FOLDER and clicking on the WOrd, Excel, PPT, etc "exectuables" WHICH OPEN PERFECTLY (no "Single Image" nonsense. The second reason is to PROPOSE (no, not marriage), hehe, but a SOLUTION:Since we know it's a MAPPING problem, there's a solid program out there called "Shortcut Doctor" that can fix your shortcuts OR remap. I'm starting my repair as early as tomorrow. Here's the site: funduc dot com / shortcut_doctor
Thanks again, Fornell, because none of the so-called experts here or anywhere were able to find what YOU yourself found, which is the ACTUAL problem. That's cool, because now we can focus on remapping those files or shortcuts to point to their respective executables, in my case, they'll point to:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
Oh, and don't ask me why Microsoft puts "Office 2010" into a folder called "Office14". That's just ridiculous. Call it what it is so people can find the version that matches the disc for God's sake!
MOST IMPORTANTLY, I hope Fornell' and my posts help others who continue to be plagued (in some cases, for YEARS!) with this fricking, well, read it yourself: It REINSTALLS EVERY G-DA** time you open any office file (and I think any time you save too. A HUGE INCONVENIENCE: MICROSOFT SPEND A FEW BUCKS TO MONITOR YOUR OWN FORUMS. YOUR HOTFIX doesn't work. Nothing you've recommended for this widespread SINGLE IMAGE issue has helped us.
