Question

Friday, June 12, 2015 6:00 AM

I am having trouble opening a Notebook in OneNote 2013 that has been shared with me via OneDrive.

I can open the Notebook in OneNote Online no problem.

I don't see the option to open it in OneNote though.

Also if I try to open the Notebook in OneNote 2013 it fails with the above error.

I do have view access and when I go to "File | Open" in OneNote 2013 I can see the Notebook - I just can't open it.

I've tried clearing the OneNote cache as suggested in other posts but that doesn't work.

Please help.

Many thanks and kind regards,
Cliff

Hi,

Based on the error message, please try the 2 methods and check they are helpful.

Method one:

  • Open Credential Manager (go to the Start screen and start typing "credential", it should be among the first results).

  • Click "Windows Credentials".

  • Under "Generic Credentials", find the entry that starts with "MicrosoftOffice15_Data".

  • Expand that entry and click on "Remove".

  • Now open any Office program. Check the top right corner, it should require you to log in. Do so, and your documents and OneNote notebooks should sync again.

Method two:

Add a Page Title of your OneNote file.

Thanks George,

Method 1 worked for me (never tried 2).

All's good ;-)

Many thanks for your help.

This stopped working when we moved to office 365 and your solutions do not work.  With that I do not even get a chance to add a password.  I am really unhappy with the office 365.

I am having the same problem..

This solution didn't solve it...  (tried both 1 & 2)

I do have to accounts - a personal one and a office 365 one, could it result from that?

Add the location of the URL where the OneNote is stored to your Internet Trusted or Intranet sites and it should pass through the authentication required, fixing the issue.
