Hi,
We have a laptop that has one of its network drive configured to be available Offline. The User has reported issues with not having his work available when he has worked offline and he connects to the network.
To test this I created a Word Document in the shared folder that's is available offline on the laptop, Once created I opened the file on the network and started modifying it, while on the laptop i disconnected from the network and made changes to the same file.
Once I connected back the laptop, to the network, I started synchronization, It did not display any conflicts at all and finished syncing, I browsed to the folder where that file was and the Size on the Laptop showed it as 0 kb, whereas the file opens and works fine on every other machine that's on the network the file size is also 100 kb approx on each computer including a computer that also has the same folder available offline.
I've already Formatted the CSC Database twice with the registry key, so I know that's not the issue, I need some help in figuring this out.

Hi,
In my original post, i clearly mentioned that I've already tried formatting the database (twice) :) yet the first post I get is the same to create "FormatDatabase" registry key.
I don't think the Offline Files database is corrupt, I am able to recreate this issue repeatedly.
Step 1. Configure Offline Files on Network Path \Domain.local\Domain\U_A\U_W (Yes we use DFS)
Step 2. Sync
Step 3. Disconnect the laptop from network
Step 4. Open a file on the laptop and open the same file on a Desktop (which doesn't have Offline Files configured)
Step 5. Save on both Laptop & Desktop
Step 6. Connect Laptop back to the network, and Sync.
Step 7. Open Mobsync.exe to check for conflicts. 0 conflicts are detected and Sync is complete.
Step 8. Open the folder path for the file you were editing when offline.
Step 9. Check the file size, its now 0 Kb and the file no longer opens or is allowed to be deleted.
Step 10. Check the file size on the Desktop, which opens fine.
Step 11. Temporarily delete the file from the desktop.
Step 12. On the Laptop notice the file size is now displayed correctly but the file still doesn't open or is delete-able.
Step 13. Format Database using the Registry fix and retry.

Hi,
Thank you for your feedback.
I'm sorry to have caused you any inconvenience.
As the article mentioned: in auto offline mode, all reads and writes go to the local cache. No synchronization occurs.
In manual offline mode, all reads and writes go to the local cache. No synchronization occurs by default, but background synchronization can be enabled through the Group Policy setting Configure Background Sync.
Microsoft recommends, however, to only use Offline Files for paths where only one user has write access in order to prevent synchronization conflicts that invariably arise if multiple users can edit different copies of a document at the same time. The only valid multi-user scenario would be a read-only directory used to push out things like static documentation to the users.
