Hello, I have an old XLS file that errors when I open it in MS Excel 2010 with the following:
"Opening the VBA project in this file requires a component that is not currently installed. This file will be opened without the VBA project. For more information, search Microsoft Office Online for "VBA converters." "
I found Article ID: 926430, but this article only mentions a hotfix available for Excel 2007.
Is there an equivalent hotfix/download for Excel 2010? I'd like to convert the file to Excel 2010 compatibility. It contains VBA code.

This is worth a try:
Open the file in 2003 and go the the VBA area and check what items are Referenced under Tools, References.
The open the file in 2010 and in the VBA are choose Tools, References. Not if any are missing in the 2010 list that were referenced in the 2003 list. (Checked)

Hello,
How this issue is going on in your side? Unfortunately, there is no an official documentation (KB article) for this error in Excel 2010. Actually, I have made a simple test in my side: create an Excel 2003 workbook, press Alt + F11, add a sub block (just a MsgBox) in ThisWorkbook, save this file as .xls file, and open it in Excel 2010. When I open it in Excel 2010, it does not show this message you are seeing.
For this simple ,xls file, please test in the system with Excel 2010, and see if this also has the same scenario. If you still have any concern for this issue, please feel free to follow up.

Just a quick note, although the KB article doesn't SAY its compatible with Office 2010, once you download the file, the readme.txt says it *IS* compatible with Office Excel 2007 "and later". There is a slight work around for 64bit Excel 2010 (i.e. you need 32bit version lol) but it does work for me. Here's the KB link -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926430/en-us Regards, GlenCheers, Glen

The KB at
http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/926430
has been updated and a note has been added:
"Note The product that is listed in the Hotfix Request form states "Microsoft Office Excel 2007." However, the download applies to Excel 2007, Excel 2010, and Excel 2013. This is a limitation of the form."
