How to downgrade from vs 2017 enterprise to community?

Question

Sunday, January 14, 2018 8:52 PM | 3 votes

As a student, I've been using vs to program some basic stuff for >6 months but today i got a message that my trial for vs enterprise had ended. Thing is, im pretty sure I downloaded the community version originally and the trial isn't 6 months long so something is wrong and i was wondering if i could just fix it by downgrade it. I know that I could just delete and re-install the community one, but I have a VERY limited amount of data so I would prefer another option.

Thanks

Hi Badde00,

Welcome to the MSDN forum.

To know the VS 2017 edition, please open VS 2017 and go to Help-About Microsoft Visual Studio and it will display the version, or you can re-run the VS 2017 installer and it will show you the installed version on your computer.

For VS 2017, we can install and use the different versions of VS 2017 on the same computer. If your current VS 2017 version is enterprise, you can choose to download and install the VS community 2017 to work side by side with the existing one or uninstall the VS enterprise and install the VS community 2017.

If it is VS community 2017 and please sign in with your Microsoft account, then you can unlock it to use for freely use.

Best regards,

Sara

OP asked for a downgrade, this answer is not appropriate
"I know that I could just delete and re-install the community one, but I have a VERY limited amount of data so I would prefer another option".
I came here with the same issue since it's the top result from google search, can you provide an appropriate answer ?

The same happened to me. I thought i pressed a wrong button or something cause I wasn't sure what i pressed (installed mechanically). I had my Community version offline cache . Also i have signed in with my account.

there seems to be a bug in the installer, i also clicked community edition but saw enterprise downloading just as um at 90% of the download, this is a major problem for us with limited data plans. someone needs to take a look at this from the VS team.

I just experienced it third time. I need to again uninstall enterprise and install community and all my settings and plugins. Microsoft always does something which steals time and live from me. And other things and apps.... after 15 years I am a bit annoyed.

Same for me, installed Community and now I see Enterprise edition under About.

Please MSDN, could you provide an explanation?

Same to me, now I will waste time uninstalling enterprise version, that I did not ask for. DISGUSTING! This is dishonest.

I thought it was just me downloading the wrong one.  This is not right.

Sara - OP asked for how to downgrade, not how to install more.

I also would like to know how to downgrade without un-install -> re-install.  Suggestions?

Same here, 100% sure I've never asked for an Enterprise installation of Visual Studio.
Now I have to delete and download X Gb of data again for no reason...
