Question

I cannot create or resize VMs to any series other than F-series VMs in the WestUs2 region specifically. My target, B-series VMs, are greyed out in the VM creation page, and don't exist in the resize pane.

So essentially what that means is there is not enough capacity of the size you are requesting at this point in time. So you either need to move the VM to another region or try again later. This will allow time for other users to deallocate their VM and free up resources in that data center.

What is the message that is displayed when you hover over the Greyed out sizes?

Size not available
This size is currently unavailable in this location for this subscription: NotAvailableForSubscription
However, I've made a B-size VM in this subscription in this region before. This machine used to be a B1s VM, until I wanted 2 cpus, so I resized it to a F-series VM because the B2s size is unavailable.

Try deallocating the VM then attempting the resize. Sometimes if your VM is powered on it can limit what size you can move to.

Doing this makes the sizes visible, but when I attempt to resize I get the error message:
Failed to resize virtual machine 'VmName' to size 'Standard B2s'. Error: The requested size for resource 'VmName' is currently not available in location 'westus2' zones '' for subscription 'subscriptionId'. Please try another size or deploy to a different location or zones. See https://aka.ms/azureskunotavailable for details.
The link doesn't provide any helpful information except confirming the size is unavailable, even though I've deployed this size of VM in this region previously.

Ok, I will keep checking to see if the size becomes available. If this size doesn't become available in the course of the next week, what should I do?

That should not be the case, However if it is, reply here and we can look further.

Hello Micah,
I have been checking over the weekend and am still unable to switch to any size besides F-series VMs. I also cannot create any VMs other than F-series, including the B-series VM I'm trying to set up.

Can you try creating a new VM and selecting the B series? That way we can determine if it is a subscription limitation or a region issue.

When I attempt to create a new VM the B-series is grayed out, but only in the WestUs2 region, it works fine in the WestUs region

In the portal
1) Go to Subscriptions
2) Select the Subscription you are working with
3) Under settings, select Usage + Quotas
4) Apply the following filters and check your quota limits for the B series

This is what I see, I am far below quota https://mastrchef.blob.core.windows.net/uploads/beylix/2019-09-24_09-23-05-firefox.png

Hmm interesting. At this point it is probably best to open a technical support request to get this investigated further. If you don't have the ability to open a technical ticket you are welcome to email me at [email protected] and provide me with your subscriptionID and link to this thread. I can then enable your subscription for that support request.

Will do. Thank you for your help!
