I have a distribution group that is set for moderation and the Approve/reject options are missing in both OWA and Outlook. Have tried multiple browsers and outlook versions. Moderators can see the approval email just fine but can't do anything with it. We are running exchange 2010 hybrid environment. Distribution group has both on premise and cloud recipients.

Has the message been delivered? Once the message is delivered, it won't have the moderation options on it. Have you run message tracking to see what happened to the message? Also, do you have anyone in the "Specify senders who don't require message approval" list?

The messages that require moderation are not being delivered. Only the moderators are in the "Specify senders who don't require message approval" list. Messages sent from them are being delivered to the group members.

Hi,
According to your description, it indicate that moderation works fine, however cannot find the option to configure it by OWA and Outlook.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Firstly, only the owner of distribution list can modify it, also it cannot be done in Outlook client.
Secondly, we can use EMC, EMS or login ECP with owner's credential, switch to Groups and under "Distribution groups I own", click on the list you want to change. Please check your browser compatibility to ensure you meet the minimum requirements for using OWA.

Allen, I believe the issue is that when the moderators receive the moderated message, there is no option to accept or decline delivery of the message.
Robert, I'd ask what version of Outlook are your users are using, but since this also isn't working in OWA, that isn't the issue. What service packs and updates have you deployed in your on-prem systems?

We are on running exchange 2010 with the latest service packs.
I did find some more information as this is an On premise Distribution group with mixture of on Premise and office 365 users setup with Moderation. When user from office 365 sends email to the group moderators cannot see the Approve/decline buttons. When message originates from on premise user Approve/decline buttons are visible for the moderators.
Moderators approval request email.
Users from office 365 the from address is this: Microsoft Exchange [SystemMailbox{bb558c35-97f1-4cb9-8ff7-d53741}@xxxx.onmicrosoft.com]
Users on premise address is this: Microsoft Exchange Approval Assistant [SystemMailbox{1f05a927-925f-4c19-9481-db583ba}@xxx.xxx]

This sounds like something you're going to have to open a support incident with Microsoft for, I'm afraid.

My Customer is having this same problem as well but in our case we are not using a distribution list approval.
Instead we are using the Transport Rule generated when activating a DLP (In the cloud) which is to send emails for approval to certain people in the company whenever sensitive information is detected leaving the organization.
The rule so far seems to send the approval for my customer but the options Approve or Reject are missing for her.
Did any of you guys ever find a fix to this issue? (My customer also has a Hybrid )
Any answers will be approved.

Hi there. Regarding OWA, I was able to get the Approve/Reject buttons to show up after selecting the browser option to Request Desktop Site. We run a hybrid environment with Exchange 2016 and O365. This seems to work in IE and Chrome, but FireFox may be a little temperamental.
