Question
Friday, October 26, 2018 3:22 PM
I purchased 5 VL Office 2019 Pro and 1 VL of Visio 2019 Pro. I am trying to download and install the product and so far I have having no luck. I downloaded the deployment tool and set up my .xml file (example below). I then went to an elevated command prompt and typed C:Office Dep Tool>setup.exe /download office2019Pro.xml. It appears to download the necessary files to the file location in SourcePath and after some time it goes back to the command prompt. I then type C:Office Dep Tool>setup.exe /configure office2019Pro.xml. I get an Office splash type screen that says "we are getting things ready". It flashes on and off a couple of times and then disappears. Then I get a notification in the notification center that says the product is completely installed but I can't find it anywhere and it doesn't show that it is installed in add/remove programs. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

</Product>
</Add>

Hi,
I notice that the installation says that the product is completely installed but on product listed in Control Panel > Programs and Features. Is it right? If that is the case, please use the following method to check if any Office version is installed successfully on current computer:
- Run as Administrator to open Command Prompt.
- Type the following script:
cscript.exe "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs /dstatus
To check if there is any 32-bit Office 2016 installed on a 64-bit operating system, the script is:
cscript.exe "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs /dstatus - If there is no Office product returns, please use the following configuration.xml file for Office 2019 downloading and installation:
<Configuration>
<Add SourcePath="\fileprint2016\Public\Software Installers\Office 2019 Pro" OfficeClientEdition="64" Channel="PerpetualVL2019">
<Product ID="ProPlus2019Volume" PIDKEY="VL Key listed here" >
<Language ID="en-us" />
</Product>
</Add>
<RemoveMSI All="True" />
<Display Level="FULL" AcceptEULA="TRUE" />
</Configuration>
Any updates in your side, feel free to post back for more discussion.
Best Regards,
Winnie Liang

Unfortunately no luck. When I run either of your two commands (script) I get an error that says "Input Error: Can not find script file...."
I verified in control panel that there are no versions of office listed there. I then ran your configuration .xml file using "configure /download office2019pro.xml". I verified that an office folder was created in the download share and it appeared to download all the necessary files. After that it went back to a command prompt. I then ran the command again but this time with a configure switch. I get the orange Office splash screen that says "Office.. we are getting things ready". This shows on the screen for 3-4 second, disappears and then I go back to a command prompt. I went to the C drive under Program Files and there is no Microsoft Office folder listed there. It doesn't appear that it even tries to install it. Checking the event logs doesn't show anything of note.

It is almost beyond comprehension why Microsoft took the .msi installer off the download website and substituted it with this more complicated process. I have been using Microsoft products since Windows 3.1 and I have witnessed them do some stupid stuff (Windows ME, Windows 8, Surface naming confusions, etc.) but I believe this has to be up there in the top 5. I assume they are doing this to push people to Office 365 but it seriously has me looking for a non-Microsoft replacement for Office in our organization and I can only imagine I am not alone.

So I called Microsoft support and was able to get it installed and activated. The only thing that I could see different was she had me rename my .xml file to "config.xml" and point to that in my command. I didn't see anything different but don't know how that could possibly be it. She did have me reboot the computer after activation and mentioned that they were having some issues with the activation not holding after a reboot. Thanks for the help.

Hi awreaper,
I understand how frustrated for this Office installation issue. I am trying to help. About the installation technology changes, the click-to-run method is a better choice for updating and installation for client users. Personal opinion, it may be a consideration for Office 365 service migration and compatibility.
About the Office 2019 installation, we can troubleshoot it together. Please collect the following information:
- After you run Setup.exe /download configuration.xml file, go to \fileprint2016\Public\Software Installers\Office 2019 Pro to check the Office installation files, right-click the whole folder, select Properties, tell me the size of this folder. I can help to confirm if all files have been downloaded successfully.
- Run as Administrator to open Command Prompt, use Setup.exe /configure configuration.xml file to install it.
- If it fails, collect the SETUPEXE logs in %temp% folder. Share the details here for further analysis.
Best Regards,
Winnie Liang
