Question

Hi Everyone

I deleted my profile on outlook 2016, am trying to add it back and am unable to do so i get error message "windows shell common dll has stopped working".

I have noticed on outlook 2016 when you try to add a new profile outlook gives you two options Exchange Active Sync and POP3 or IMAP. But on Outlook 2013 we use to have three features:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service
  • Outlook.com or Exchange ActiveSync compatible service
  • POP or IMAP

In this can I want to use Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service, please can anyone help me add my profile.

Try a repair of Office. Right click start choose Programs and Features, select Office in the list and then click Repair in the toolbar above.

The protocol you use has nothing to do with the dll crashing.  If you have already re-installed office and it is still happening I would run a system file check to find the state of the OS

Why do you need/want to use Exchange server and not active sync?

Please run a system file check (SFC) & DISM  if you are on win 8 or higher

I had the same issue... This is how I fixed it.

Please also try renaming the OLMAPI32.dll from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\olmapi32.dll and then repair Office.
