Question

Hello,
I am experiencing an issue with Outlook. Maybe this is because I use an IMAP account type, and not Microsoft Exchange, but I did not find any confirmation that this is actually the problem. So, when I receive a message, I can flag it, so it appears in the Follow-Up Section, but I can not mark this as complete - the only two options available by right click or via the Home Ribbon are "Flag Message" and "Clear Flag".
However, if I create a local .pst file and move my E-Mails from the server to the PST I can normally flag items and mark them as done.
Can anyone tell me if this problem is because of the IMAP type account (I have two mapped into Outlook, one from Yahoo, one external, in none of them it works to flag messages.)
Thank you very much in advance for your response.
Kind regards,
Richard

Hi Richard,
When an IMAP account is configured in Outlook, there is just one option for flags: either flagged or not flagged. This is a limitation of the IMAP protocol itself.
Regards,

this is an OLD post but i just came across it looking for a solution my self
i found a work around that helps me..
i set my outlook to NOT mark a email as read after i quick view it. so this way its marked as completed only after i CTR+Enter or right click and mark as read.
see https://www.msoutlook.info/question/250
on how to do this..
its best i got for now, but yes IMAP really needs to support compleated status..
