Unable to move emails from inbox to folder

Question

Thursday, September 15, 2016 11:10 AM

Since reinstalling Outlook 2013 I can no longer move emails from the inbox to the personal folders.  I alwa\ys get the message "The operation cannot be performed because the message has been changed." This happens even when the inbox email is fresh and has never even been opened.  I have an IMAP account.

I would be very glad for some help.

Hi,

Open Outlook in safe mode and check it if the issue persists:

In Run type Outlook /safe (there is a space between outlook and / )

If it works in safe mode, then the issue might be due to add-ins. and you should disable the add-ins one by one as ..

  • Click on File menu, Options and then Add-ins.
  • Click on Go button besides Manage: Com-in Add.
  • Check if there are add-ins listed, clear all the checkbox
  • Click OK.

Now open the outlook n normal mode and check whether you can perform that task or not.

You should also disable your Anti virus program in order to check if the issue persist.

Thanks

Hi,

Generally, "The operation cannot be performed because the message has been changed" error happens when you try to perform actions on messages while Outlook is syncing with the server.

Please first try repairing your Outlook data file to see if it helps. For your convenience:

Do you have your email account sync with any other devices? Such as a mobile phone? If so, please try temporarily disable the sync and then see if this issue continues.

In addition, some users who got the same error message were able to fix it by rooting the mailbox, you may also have a try. To do this, go to Account Settings, double click your IMAP account, click More Settings button > Advanced tab. Type 'Inbox' (without the quotation marks) in the 'Root folder path:' field. Click OK and finish the account setup.

Hope this helps.
